About API PA

Why We Exist

We are living through one of the most significant political moments in US history – not only has a global pandemic laid bare the structural inequities that are inherent in our socio-economic system, but we are also witnessing a moment of rupture in our political imagination due to the Black Lives Matter Movement. These are critical times. These are exciting times. Now more than ever, Asian Americans in Pennsylvania need a political home to fight for everything our people need to survive and thrive, no matter where we are in the commonwealth.

The Asian Pacific Islander Political Alliance’s (API PA) mission is to build long-term power for APIs in Pennsylvania, by coordinating political, electoral, and legislative work to hold our elected officials accountable, engaging in culturally competent and linguistically accessible direct voter contact with our communities, and building solidarity with other aligned communities of color across the state.

Civic Engagement Overview

Raise Our Voice.

Historically, the API vote has been at best taken for granted, and more often ignored.

APIs on the rise.

While APIs are the fastest growing demographic in the state, we are historically under-engaged by political institutions and organizations. We need a political home for APIs in PA build long-term statewide power if we want our institutions and leaders to be accountable to us.

Stem the Hate.

Politicians are currently spending millions to shift blame for Covid 19 towards China broadly, which is stoking xenophobic, anti-Chinese and anti-Asian sentiment.

Your Vote Counts.

Pennsylvania is a winner-take-all state that went to Donald Trump by only 44,000 votes in 2016. There are over 5 times that many API voters across the commonwealth. When we vote, we win!

State Districts

In Pennsylvania, we have notable numbers in target State House and State Senate districts that are needed to ensure progressive state legislative majorities.

House Majority

Similarly, the API vote will be key this year for maintaining the current progressive Congressional majority.
